The annual Botswana Resource Sector Conference, which seeks to increase investment into the southern African nation’s mining industry, has commenced in Gaborone.
Minister of mineral resources, Green technology and energy security Eric Molale was expected to make a keynote address Wednesday.
Organisers of the conference said this year’s agenda would once again consist of a mixture of solo presentations and panel discussions focusing on the diamond, copper, coal mining sectors as well as energy, water, transport and infrastructure.
Mining contributed 22 percent to Botswana’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2016.
Diamonds accounted for 66 percent of the country’s mining exports in 2016.
