Lucapa Pockets $3m in Q2 Diamond Sales

July 11, 2016

Lucapa Diamond Company sold two alluvial diamond parcels weighing 2 670 ct from its Lulo project in Angola, earning $3 million at an average price of $1 132/ct during the quarter ended June 2016.

This lifted its first half diamond sales to $26.2-million at an average price of $5 686 per carat.

Meanwhile, Lucapa said 2 581 carats were recovered during the quarter at a slightly lower grade of seven carats per hundred cubic meters, including 30 special diamonds of up to 88 ct and a 13 ct yellow diamond, representing an 80% increase in recoveries compared with the same quarter in 2015.

The average size of the diamonds recovered increased from 0.8 ct a stone to 1.3 ct a stone, despite the bottom cutoff screen size in the plant of 1.5 mm remaining unchanged.
