Kimberley Diamonds said that open cut mining operations are expected to start next month at its Lerala diamond mine in Botswana.
The company, which awarded a mining contract to Basil Read Botswana, said that production was scheduled to reach nominal output, in line with commissioning of the processing plant scheduled for June this year.
It said the mining contract, which would cover an initial five years of mining, had a value of about A$47-million.
“…Basil Read will commence mobilising its staff and equipment to Lerala Diamond Mine during February 2016,” said Kimberley Diamonds
Lerala was projected to produce an average of 357 000 carats per annum.
